THE WORLD SEEN ANEW. A BOOK DISCUSSION

THE WORLD SEEN ANEW. A BOOK DISCUSSION

Description

“THE WORLD SEEN ANEW. On the Poetics of Seeing in 20th- and 21st-Century Art from the FOLTA Collection”

On October 1 at 6:00 PM, we invite you to FOLTA Collection for a discussion of the book accompanying the inaugural exhibition The World Seen Anew.

The discussion will begin with a question: what comes after herstories? Has the herstory revolution already taken place, and can we now begin to draw conclusions from it? What changes when women artists who were excluded from the canon for decades are finally given their rightful place? And what does art history look like when viewed from the perspective of the female artistic subject?

The conversation will also explore whether the inclusion of previously overlooked women artists might transform our understanding of art from past decades, and what new avenues of research are opening up for art historians today.

The discussion will feature Prof. Anna Markowska — art historian, art critic, professor at the University of Wrocław, and contributor to the book — and Aleksander Hudzik — editor-in-chief of MINT Magazine, journalist, and cultural critic.

The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Małgorzata Ludwisiak — curator and art historian, editor of the book, and curator of the exhibition Seeing the World Anew.

The event also marks the beginning of FOLTA Collection’s developing collaboration with the academic community of Wrocław’s universities, as well as a new direction in the collection’s scholarly and research activities.

Following the discussion, guests are invited to explore the exhibition and discover the accompanying publication.
